Heifer Exposure and Female Inactivation Reports Due

Spring Heifer Exposure Data

Spring Heifer Exposure reports have been mailed and need to be returned by August 15. Spring Heifer Exposure information can also be entered via Member Data-REDS. The Heifer Exposure Report determines a member’s yearling heifer inventory. The member needs to indicate breeding season dates, exposure information, management group designation and disposal information.

Inactivation of Females

The Inactivation of Females is on May 25. These are females who have been inactivated due to the lack of a 2011 calf record or reason code for not calving. In order to avoid reactivation fees, please return a record or reason code by July 1.

If you have questions, please contact the Member Services Department.

Connecting in Kansas – Beef Profit Alliance

Red Angus and Simmental to empower stakeholders

Red Angus and Simmental national associations are two of the most industry-focused and science-based organizations in the industry. This summer they combine resources to empower cattlemen and women across the nation with the tools to add profitability to their operations.

Red Angus and Simmental stakeholders will meet in Manhattan, Kan., July 22-24 for a combined national meeting with some of the most influential leaders in our industry.

Attendees also have the opportunity to tour Mushrush Red Angus Ranch, River Creek Farms, Irvine Simmental Ranch and the K-State Purebred Unit.

For the complete agenda, program description and speaker bios, download the "Beef Profit Alliance" brochure.

Register for the event ($85 per person) online by completing the Red Angus registration form, or contacting the RAAA office (940) 387-3502.

50K Cost-Share List Expanded

As previously announced, RAAA leadership recently approved funding to share the cost of 50K genotyping 500 animals in an effort to expedite the delivery of a DNA test for genetic merit to Red Angus stakeholders.

While we have placed emphasis on genotyping the 500 head that ideally combine the characteristics of active, young, high-accuracy genetic predictions; time is starting to become a factor as the genotyping must be completed soon. Due to this, we have expanded the Discovery Population to 1,000 animals, in which RAAA will share the 50K genotyping costs.

It’s important to realize that this cost share offer will soon be over, and the full 50K genotyping costs will likely increase above the discounted price of $80 per sample. Therefore, if you plan to participate it’s recommended that you submit samples in an expedited manner.

Feel free to contact Larry Keenan (940) 387-3502 with any questions regarding this project.
