Programs & Events

In the tradition of our breed founders...
We're building leaders based on performance!

The Junior Red Angus Association (JRA) is focused on building breed and industry leaders by developing programs that offer members opportunities to strengthen their knowledge of beef cattle and improve their individual breeding programs, while developing necessary life skills such as team work, self-confidence, and communication ability.

The JRA members accomplish this through activities and programs including:

Build leadership skills, team working ability, and cattle connections through various workshops, seminars and motivational speakers. 200 youth leaders gather to learn how the industry is changing and how to become more effective leaders. Junior Red Angus board members have an opportunity to attend this leadership conference every other year during the month of March.

School is out, what better way to gain valuable farm/ranch experience? The Summer Job Program is designed to give junior members an opportunity to work with Red Angus breeders across the country.

Would you like practical experience in all aspects of raising cattle? The Traveling Female program is your ticket! Through this program, a bred Red Angus female is awarded to one junior in the region (for one year) in which the JRA member cares for, calves out and rebreeds the female. The junior member takes ownership of the resulting calf at weaning, while the bred, traveling female goes on to the next recipient.

This contest tests cattle knowledge and social skills during a three day stint of educational competitions in a small group setting. The Stockgrower's contest is held annually in Denver, CO, during the National Western Stock Show. Though conducted independently of JRA, the Junior Board is involved in assisting with ice breakers and leadership events. Any Junior cattleman with interest in Red Angus is eligible to enter.

An exciting way to visit new places can be accomplished by applying for the American/Canadian Junior Red Angus "Exchange". The Canadian Junior Angus Association (CJAA) and the Junior Red Angus Association (JRA) work together to facilitate an "exchange" between juniors. Members of the CJAA attend Round-Up and members of the JRA attend the Canadian National Jr. Show called "Showdown".
