Photography Contest

NATIONAL JUNIOR RED ANGUS ASSOCIATION (JRA) PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

The purpose of this event is to encourage junior Red Angus members to display their communication skills and style through the creative display of a message or feeling through photography.

Submit photos of Red Angus cattle, breeders, farms, ranches, field days, events, show and sale scenes or extraordinary shots. Photos will be judged on creativity and composition by an "outside the cattle industry" judge. All entries must contain a minimum of one Red Angus animal.

Winners will be selected in three age divisions: 11 and younger; 12 - 16 and 17 - 21 years of age if a minimum of 5 entries per division are entered. In the event that fewer entries are received, all photos will be grouped into one division for judging. All photos will be displayed during the National Red Angus Convention and Convention attendees will have an opportunity to vote for a "People's Choice" photo which will be auctioned at Convention. All displayed entries are presented at silent auction to benefit the JRA. Winning photos in each division will be published in the Have You Herd online junior newsletter and ARA Magazine.

JRA members who submit entries in the Photography Contest in the same calendar year as attending Round-Up will receive points toward the Best-All-Around selection at Round-Up. However, placings in the photo contest will not be considered in the Best-All-Around calculation. 

    RULES FOR NATIONAL JUNIOR RED ANGUS ASSOCIATION PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST
  1. Open to all current, active members of the National Junior Red Angus Association (JRA)
  2. Entries may be color or black and white, 8 x 10, and should be submitted electronically via e-mail to: dawn@redangus.org . Entry information must be included in the body of the e-mail and MUST include: name of photographer, age, gender, home address, city, state, zip and phone number.
  3. Photo entries must have been taken during the past year. The photo cannot be altered or image-enhanced in any way. Photos must be submitted in 8x10 format/size.
  4. Photo entries cannot have been presented for any previous JRA Photography Contest
  5. Maximum two entries allowed per contestant per year
  6. Photos become the property of the Red Angus Association of America and the American Red Angus Magazine for use in publication and promotion.
  7. All photo entries must contain at least one Red Angus animal
  8. Entries will be printed and mounted for display to the judges and at the National Red Angus Convention
  9. Junior members receive $25 per photo entry, not to exceed two entries per contest per year
  10. The JRA Photo Contest will be judged and the results posted in the junior newsletters, ARA Magazine and RAAA Convention.
  11. Entries submitted by a JRA member attending Round-Up in the same calendar year will contribute points toward Best-All-Around individual selection.
