| RED ANGUS ASSOCIATION
OF AMERICA |
| SUMMER JOB PROGRAM FOR
JUNIOR MEMBERS |
| 1. Prospective employers are contacted during the first quarter
of the year (January, February and March). Each interested, prospective
employer will complete an Employer Information Sheet. |
| 2. Applications are sent to interested juniors (each must contact
the Junior Programs Coordinator) from January l through February 28. Applications
must be received by the Junior Programs Coordinator by March 15. Once juniors'
applications are received, they will be grouped according to content by
the Junior Programs Coordinator. Copies of applications are then mailed
to breeders interested in hiring a Red Angus junior. The Junior Programs
Coordinator will send applications that meet as many of the employers requirements
as possible based upon the Employer Information Sheet. |
| 3. Each breeder may receive several applications based upon
outlined requirement and the junior's abilities to meet those requirements.
Each junior application may be sent to several potential employers. Additional
applications can be provided should the breeder find that the employee selected
is not available. |
| 4. Following application review, the breeder is encouraged to
contact his top choice(s) by telephone for an interview and to discuss details
of employment. An alternative is for the breeder to notify the Junior Programs
Coordinator, who will, in turn, have the junior(s) contact the breeder. |
| 5. Prospective employers are under no obligation to hire a Red
Angus junior if that breeder does not find a propective employee that meets
the job requirements for the operation. |
| 6. The Red Angus Association of America assists in matching
junior employees with breeder/employers but implies no guarantee that the
resulting "match" will work. If the employee/employer relationship proves
unacceptable, it is the responsibility of the involved parties to resolve
the situation. All details of employment (salary, benefits, housing, transportation
and expectations) are the responsibility of the employer and employee. |
| 7. The following topics should be addressed by the Red Angus
employer during an initial phone interview with junior applicants: |
|
a. explanation of job responsibilities |
|
b. determination of starting and ending employment dates, including
any "off" or free time, expected travel, over-time. |
|
c. discussion of insurance coverage during employment. Check
liability and auto insurance. The Red Angus Association of America can claim
no responsibility for juniors during their employment. |
|
d. negotiation of salary. One suggestion is to settle on an
equitable sum, then provide a bonus upon the termination of employment,
if deserved. |
|
e. arrangement of housing |
|
f. arrangement of travel to and from place of employment. Cost
sharing is suggested. |
| For additional information, contact the Junior Programs Coordinator
for the Red Angus Association of America. |
