Red Angus Members Appointed to BIF Board

The Red Angus Association of America (RAAA) was well represented at the 46th annual Beef Improvement Federation (BIF) Research Symposium and Convention in Lincoln, Neb., June 18-21. At the end of the annual meeting, BIF leaders changed hands and elected the 2014-2015 Board of Directors. Craig Bieber of Leola, S.D., and Joe Mushrush of Strong City, Kan., will assume new roles within the federation. 

Bieber of Bieber Red Angus Ranch, was elected as the vice president for the 2014-2015 term. Bieber Red Angus began their Red Angus herd more than 40 years ago.

“The BIF Conference in Lincoln was outstanding and I’m honored to be elected as vice president,” said Bieber. “BIF will remain an integral part of challenging the beef industry to move forward with genetic evaluation.”

Bieber currently serves BIF in the west region as a producer representative. He is also on the Breed Improvement Committee for the RAAA, was a past RAAA director and president for the Association. 

Mushrush of Mushrush Red Angus was elected to be a producer representative for the BIF board of directors. Mushrush Red Angus is a family-owned and managed operation that was started in the early 1950s. 

“BIF is known as the birth place of ideas that help enhance the genetic prediction of beef cattle,” said Mushrush. “I am excited to be able to be a part of this process.”

Mushrush currently serves on the Alliance Committee and Strategic Planning Committee for the Association. He previously served as a director and president of the RAAA and has also won the Red Angus Grid Master award.

Other RAAA members and staff who represent the association on the BIF Board of Directors are Twig Marston, RAAA CEO, historian; Larry Keenan, RAAA director of breed improvement and breed association representative; and Donnell Brown, Throckmorton, Texas, producer representative at large.
