Both the availability of time and the proficiency to digest increasing volumes of information have evolved into two of ranchers’ greatest challenges – perhaps nowhere more pronounced than in making genetic selection decisions.

Through foresight and cooperation, the Red Angus Association of America (RAAA) and the American Simmental Association (ASA) have partnered to assist producers in their genetic selections by breaking industry barriers for the first true multi-breed EPDs.

The reliability of Red Angus Association of America (RAAA) EPDs has now reached new heights. Through a mutually beneficial agreement between RAAA and Pfizer Animal Health, Red Angus stakeholders now have the option of incorporating High-Density 50K (HD 50K) DNA information into EPD calculations.

Beef Profit Alliance outlined advancements in genetic prediction

Technological advancements abound in our society and the cattle industry is no exception. Attendees at the first-ever, dual-breed Beef Profit Alliance seminar learned first hand about new and emerging technology. The seminar – held at Kansas State University (KSU) in Manhattan, Kan., July 22-24 – was a joint effort of the Red Angus Association of America (RAAA) and American Simmental Association (ASA).

Beef Profit Alliance challenged producers to add value throughout supply chain

Just as crossbreeding adds growth, fertility and longevity to hybrid cattle, the joint collaboration of two beef cattle breed associations yielded information, ideas and networking opportunities surpassing what either could have accomplished alone.

Cattle feeders and branded beef programs talk about the traits they pay for

It is said you can’t judge a book by its cover and the same may hold true for gauging which market animals will produce the most profitable carcasses.

On July 22-24 in Manhattan, Kan., cattle producers will have the opportunity to evaluate live cattle and estimate their carcass measurements on the hoof. Later, they will be able to re-evaluate the actual carcasses in the Kansas State University (KSU) meats lab.

Beef Profit Alliance will focus on increasing profit for beef operations

Accurate selection tools in the beef industry help both seedstock and commercial operators breed for traits that will add the most profit to their product. On July 22-24, Red Angus and Simmental stakeholders will gather in Manhattan, Kan., for the Beef Profit Alliance seminar to learn technological advancements that will improve the “crystal ball” for beef producers.

Neither the strong winds nor the heavy rains of tropical storm Debby could damper the spirits of the hardy JRA members and chaperones who attended the 2012 JRA Round-Up Florida Fantastic! Beginning on Tuesday, June 26, JRA members and chaperones from 12 states and Canada, flexed with the varied weather in Florida to experience ranch stops, contests and the fun adventures of Round-Up!

Red Angus and Simmental breeders will evaluate beef cattle form and function during Beef Profit Alliance

Red Angus and Simmental producers will gather in Manhattan, Kan., July 22-24, for Beef Profit Alliance – a dual-breed seminar featuring some of the beef industry’s most influential leaders.

New program adds age- and source-verification options; complements FCCP record-breaking program

The Red Angus Association of America (RAAA) released the new Allied Access marketing program to assist producers utilizing Red Angus in their crossbreeding systems. The new tag program will offer them another option for age and source verification. This is a second-tier to RAAA’s successful Feeder Calf Certification Program (FCCP) that already accommodates USDA age, source and genetic verification for cattle wearing the Red Angus “Yellow Tag.”
