Categories are determined by disqualifying features in comparison to the ideal 100% Red Angus animal.
- Category 1A: 100% Angus, Red, Polled, with all required data recorded.
- Category 1B: 87-99.9% Angus, Red, Polled, with all required data recorded.
- Category 2: Disqualifying features (see page 12-14 of rules & regulations), missing data, 51-100% Angus.
- Category 3: Less than 87% Angus (foundation cattle).
