DNA genetic defect testing may be delayed

Plan accordingly for testing to take more time

Please plan accordingly as it may take longer than normal to receive results for DNA genetic defect testing. Genetic defect samples are processed on a quantity basis and because fewer samples are submitted this time of year, it may take longer to reach their quota before the lab runs the test.

Effective July 1, 2014, DNA hair sample submissions are subject to a $1-lab-processing fee. More time is involved in extracting DNA from hair samples and statistics indicate hair samples to have a higher failure rate than blood cards.

Time to Report: Spring Heifer Exposure

Report by second week in August

Data for the Spring Heifer Exposure Report is due the second week in August. The data that you submit will be combined with data gathered through regular THR procedures to calculate the economically relevant Red Angus Heifer Pregnancy (HPG) EPD. Taking a few minutes to submit this data can increase the accuracy of HPG EPDs within your herd. HPG adds value to the seedstock you market and provides RAAA members a greater return on their investment in THR.
