When collecting and sending DNA samples to the RAAA office, please keep the following guidelines in mind to ensure timely and accurate processing:

Submit Samples Early

DNA testing does not offer a rush service. Submit samples well in advance to avoid delays and ensure results are returned on time.

Ensure High-Quality Samples

Sample quality is critical to successful testing. Inspect all samples before submission. Low-quality samples will be rejected and not forwarded to the lab. Refer to the first page of the DNA order form for collection tips.

Sample Collection Guidelines:

Hair Samples

• Do not cut hair – DNA is located in the follicles at the root. No follicles = no DNA.
• Place the hair on a hair card with follicles secured under the sticky film. Secure at least 30 follicles.

Blood Samples

• Completely fill the circle on the card, and allow the blood to dry fully before closing.
• Use a sterile needle to collect the sample.
• Do not submit blood samples for twins due to the risk of in-utero contamination. Hair or TSU samples are recommended instead.

TSUs

• Each tube should contain tissue, liquid, the green ball, and a visible red stopper.
• Do not collect tissue from dirty or tattooed areas, as this can contaminate the sample.

Include Required Documentation

All DNA samples must be accompanied by a completed and signed order form and payment. Incomplete submissions delay processing.
