Posted September 24, 2015

Grapevine, Texas - Recognizing contributions to the breed and the continued pursuit of excellence, Hall Red Angus Ranch, Stapleton, Nebraska, was honored as 2015 Pioneer Breeder of the Year at the 2015 Red Angus Association of America National Convention, Sept., 9-11, 2015. Kyle Gilchrist, Douds, Iowa, who has served as the auctioneer for the family’s annual production sale, made the awards presentation. The Hall family includes Helen Hall, the wife the late Lamoine Hall, daughter Paula Pokorny and husband Brad along with sons Cade, Cauy and Dane. The Hall family was unable to be in attendance. Kim Ford, friend and fellow Nebraska Red Angus breeder accepted the honor on their behalf.

The Pioneer Breeder of the Year Award is given in recognition of an established herd that has led the beef industry making significant contributions to the betterment of the Red Angus breed.

Lamoine  made his first investment in Red Angus cattle in 1976.  The ranch holds its annual production sale in March, at North Platte, Nebraska.

“I’ve been told that Lamoine never missed taking a birth weight on a calf, never missed taking all weights on bulls and all the heifers, even before THR was in place,” Gilchrist said. “He was diligent in recording this information and using it to improve his herd and making it more efficient. Although Lamoine passed away in 2013, I know that he would be exceptionally proud of this award.”

The Red Angus Association of America serves the beef industry by enhancing and promoting the competitive advantages of Red Angus and Red Angus-influenced cattle. RAAA provides commercial producers with the most objectively described cattle in the industry by seeking and implementing new technologies based on sound scientific principles that measure traits of economic importance.
