June 2026 Board Meeting Highlights

The Red Angus Association of America Board of Directors met June 4–5 in Boise, Idaho, in conjunction with the Beef Improvement Federation (BIF) Convention to discuss strategic initiatives, breed improvement, member services, and Association operations. The formal set of board minutes to follow and viewable via REDSPro once approved by the board of directors.

General Updates

  • Approved the FY 2026–2027 operating budget. Added funding to support a Red Angus participant in the NCBA Young Cattlemen's Conference (YCC).
  • Selected Tulsa, Oklahoma, as the host city for the 2028 Red Angus Convention.
  • Approved the relocation of the RAAA headquarters to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, effective immediately.
  • Received an update on UltraInsights' work within the Registration Department, with a goal of achieving 2–3 day turnaround times for member transactions.
  • Directed the Show Committee to evaluate the National Western Stock Show for reinstatement as a regional show.
  • Directive to start collecting interest for the 2027 committee appointments.
  • We were pleased to have Larry Keenan, Director of Breed Improvement, and Ashley McCoy and Troy Marshall, Co-Directors of Beef Supply & Market Development, in attendance. Their expertise and engagement added significant value to the discussions and ongoing work of the Association.

Member Service & Billing Changes

  • Beginning July 1, 2026, paperless billing will become the default option. Members may continue receiving paper statements for $5 per month.
  • Finance charges will be assessed after 60 days of non-payment, instead of the known policy of 30 days of non-payment. Accounts will continue to be placed on hold after 30 days of non-payment.
  • Beginning with the July/August 2026 Red Angus magazine, households will receive only one physical copy of the magazine per address, unless additional copies are requested.

Breed Improvement Actions

  • Development of a formal policy for introducing Research EPDs to membership, starting with Hair Shedding.
  • Directed Breed Improvement staff to research the feasibility of a Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) EPD and to work with the Technical committee.
  • Effective July 1, 2026, DNA Parentage only testing and uLD testing will be discontinued. The GGP(100k panel which includes genomically enhanced EPDs, parentage and OS and MA genetic defects) test will become the Association's standard genomic test at $40 per sample. Additional defect testing will remain available as an optional add-on service.

Governance

  • The Constitution & Bylaws Committee presented proposed bylaw revisions that will be brought before the membership for consideration and vote at the 2026 Red Angus Convention. This will become available to the membership through REDSPro for review before the annual meeting.
  • The 30 days’ notice will be sent in various forms of communication through the association regarding the annual membership meeting.

The Board remains focused on improving operational efficiency, strengthening member services, advancing breed improvement initiatives, aligning with the strategic plan and positioning the Association for long-term success.
