Market Recap: Week in the Rockies Sale

Posted July 16, 2026

Another historic week for feeder and calf prices. The fireworks continued in the week following July 4, with most classes and weights of cattle setting new record highs. Red Angus cattle experienced strong demand during Superior's Weekend in the Rockies sale.

Despite tight supplies, buyers continue to differentiate prices based on perceived quality. One of the most notable developments this week was the significant narrowing of the price spread between steers and heifers. For the first time, we saw consistent demand for replacement-quality heifers, with many instances of heifer calves selling at par with, or even at a premium to their steer mates.

Demand for Red Angus replacement females continued to lead the way among breed preferences, reinforcing the strength of the market and the value buyers place on Red Angus genetics.
