RAYE Recap: Success In and Out of the Ring!

Posted June 25, 2025

The 2025 Red Angus Youth Expo was one for the books! With more than 190 exhibitors from across the country and 353 entries shown, the barns were buzzing. Contest participation reached an all-time high, including the debut of two new contests: the Video Contest and Operational Marketing Contest, which gave juniors new avenues to showcase their talents and creativity.

The Skill-a-Thon, a RAYE signature event, allowed members to step into real-world cattle production, with hands-on experiences like administering shots, drawing blood, identifying calving positions and placing a growth implant into a real cattle ear.

The National Junior shows were top-notch, showcasing the incredible quality and dedication of Red Angus exhibitors. We also saw continued growth in the Phenotype/Genotype Show with the addition of the PGS Bull Show. The caliber of cattle and the passion behind them were evident in every class.

Several people show red Angus cattle in an indoor arena. A decorated display with the words "Red Angus" and red drapes is visible on the right. Spectators observe from bleachers in the background. Inside a livestock show arena, several people present reddish-brown cattle for judging. A camera operator films the event near a decorated stage with a red “RED ANGUS” sign and star-themed backdrop.

Members also enjoyed a variety of experiences outside the show ring. A tour of ShowMe Genetics offered a behind-the-scenes look at cutting-edge genetic practices and facilities. It was a valuable opportunity to connect classroom knowledge with real-world applications.

A group of kids in red shirts and purple gloves intently work on a crafts project at a table, decorating yellow objects with paint and markers. One child wears a cowboy hat. A woman in a pink top kneels while working on a mechanical device, with tools and equipment on a table nearby. Three other people observe and assist in a workshop setting. Two men, one wearing a straw hat and floral shirt, the other in a blue shirt, use gloves and utensils to prepare or examine animal skulls on metal trays in a brightly lit indoor space.

The kickball tournament sponsored by Show Circuit Online Sales, offered friendly competition and was a major hit. It was the perfect chance to unwind, build camaraderie, and make memories outside the barns.

The week ended on a high note with the awards ceremony, where we crowned the first-ever JRA Queen and Princess, honored Gracie Rogers as the Outstanding JRA Member, and honored Zachary Griffeth as the inaugural JRA Herdsman of the Year. We also introduced the newly elected 2025–2026 JRA Board of Directors.

Four people in gray suits with red feather boas stand in an indoor arena, holding cowboy hats as fireworks erupt beside them. Bright sparks and dramatic lighting fill the festive, celebratory atmosphere. A group of young people in matching gray blazers and cowboy hats stand together indoors, looking up and smiling. A crowd of children and adults, some in colorful outfits, stand around them.

The heart of RAYE isn’t just the cattle or contests — it’s the connections. Seeing junior members laughing, learning and creating memories and friendships that will last a lifetime was the highlight of the week. We’re grateful for the strength and support of our Red Angus Family, whose generosity and encouragement make this experience possible.

We want to extend our deepest thanks to the sponsors who helped make RAYE possible. Your support provides opportunities for youth to grow, lead and thrive in the Red Angus breed. From contest prizes and scholarships to meals, activities and show ring essentials, every contribution made a difference. Your investment in junior members is shaping the future of our industry, and we’re thankful to have you as part of the RAYE family.
