Commerce City, CO – As of May 11, Larry Keenan has been appointed as the permanent Director of Breed Improvement for the Red Angus Association of America (RAAA).

Previously appointed as the interim Director Breed Improvement in April 2026, Keenan has moved into the role with a seamless transition. As a previous Director of Breed Improvement for the RAAA, Keenan brings years of experience and depth to his position.

“Over the last nine years, Larry has expanded his perspective through hands-on involvement in the commercial cattle industry, giving him valuable real-world insight into the needs and challenges producers face today,” said Halla Ramsey, Executive Director of Operations. “Additionally, through his service on the RAAA Technical Committee over the past two years, he has remained engaged with the current technical and breed improvement discussions taking place within the Association.”

Keenan will serve the association by developing and implementing resources that will increase the reliability of Red Angus genetics and help members and stakeholders meet the current challenges of the beef industry.

“As a Red Angus member myself, I understand that the decisions we make and the tools we provide have real-world consequences. I have skin in the game, and the decisions that affect your operation affect mine as well,” Keenan says. “As a result, you can expect a heightened focus on accuracy, transparency, and attention to detail as we work to strengthen the reliability and trustworthiness of Red Angus selection tools.”
