Tomascik to assist producers in adding value

Chelsea Tomascik of Cameron, Texas, recently joined the Red Angus Association of America (RAAA) Marketing Team as marketing programs coordinator, and will play an integral role in adding value to Red Angus customers’ product.

Tomascik grew up on her family’s ranch in Cameron, Texas, where they raised registered Red Angus and commercial cattle. She earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Texas A&M University and completed her internship in Washington, D.C., with the USDA Marketing Programs Branch, Check-off Programs.

Tomascik continued her education earning her master’s degree at Texas A&M in agricultural communications and journalism, at which time she served as a graduate teaching assistant in the department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications.

Following graduation, she moved to Manhattan, Kan., and directed the Youth Livestock Program in the Department of Animal Sciences and Industry at Kansas State University.

“We are really pleased to have Chelsea on the Red Angus team,” said Myron Edelman, director of added value programs. “She brings a strong agriculture background and great communication skills necessary to continue to advance Red Angus marketing programs in a direction that creates success for our stakeholders.”

Tomascik’s initial duties include enrolling Red Angus bull customers’ cattle into the various USDA-verified, added-value programs offered by RAAA, including the Feeder Calf Certification Program (FCCP), Allied Access (AA) and Pro-Cow.

The FCCP program reached an all-time record of 78,000 tags sold in the months of January, February and March, and she looks forward to continuing that upward trend by educating producers about progressive changes in FCCP as well as future Red Angus marketing programs.

Tomascik will also manage the Feeder Fax email service to market Red Angus feeder cattle, as well as the Stockyards on where producers can list any Red Angus cattle for sale.

“When I interned in Washington D.C., I dealt with four Check-off Programs and learned what it takes for approval with the USDA, explained Tomascik. “That marketing experience combined with my communications training will give me the tools to help Red Angus stakeholders add more value to their cattle.”

Tomascik enjoys spending time helping at her family’s ranch and mentoring her niece who has started showing livestock.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to work at RAAA,” said Tomascik.  “I’ve been interested in working for the Association for many years and I look forward to meeting and visiting with Red Angus stakeholders to help them add value to their Red Angus cattle.”
