Posted November 4, 2013

The Red Angus Association of America (RAAA) presented its John V. Robbins Distinguished Service award to Tom Woodward of Decatur, Texas. The John V. Robbins Distinguished Service award is presented to Red Angus members or individuals of the RAAA who have contributed to the betterment of services offered by the Association – individuals who have contributed time or talents to enhance the services provided by RAAA.

According to RAAA Past President Kelli Brown of Throckmorton, Texas, Woodward exemplifies servant leadership at its finest. “The breadth, depth and width of his knowledge in the beef industry cuts a wide swath,” she said, and added that Woodward, as manager of one of the largest commercial cattle operations in the country, is often called upon to provide input from a commercial cattleman’s standpoint. “He is also knowledgeable about the show world, having served as superintendent of one of the largest heifer shows in the country for more than 30 years.”

Woodward currently serves as the general manager of Broseco Ranch in Decatur, Texas, and vice president of Broventure Company, Inc. He earned a degree in livestock production and a PhD. in reproduction from Texas A&M University before serving for 13 years in various capacities at the University.  He also managed the Ranch and Farm Management Department for Texas American Bank for eight years before joining Broseco full-time in 1989.

In addition to serving on the RAAA board, Woodward has served in leadership roles for a number of state and national industry organizations, including the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, Ranchers Renaissance, the Texas and Southwestern Cattleraiser’s Association and the Southwestern Livestock Show and Rodeo.
